@JESSIE J’s NATAL CHART + Transits

Recently I was asked what a typical astrological consultation consisted of and if I had any examples I could present. Since personal astrology sessions are confidential I’ve chosen a chart of a celebrity that is already in the public domain, whom much is already written about.

For this example, I’ve chosen to take a closer look at U.K born singer Jessie J.

Following is the delineation of my astrological interpretation of her natal chart, as well as some transits to her natal chart which indicate past, present and upcoming changes and trends to her life experience. These trends can be experienced on a personal external level as well as external events and people that seem to happen ‘to’ her. Usually reflecting internal growth or change that still needs to be integrated.
In a personal consultation, I prefer a two-way dialogue, whereas looking at a chart without the individual is a dry ‘textbook’ approach.

First off we look at the sign and house placement of the Sun, then the Moon, moving onto the Ascendant, Saturn. Next, we move through the personal planets Mercury, Venus, and Mars plus any strong aspects involving them.

I try to balance out the ‘easy’ aspects with the aspects that show where and what our lifelong challenges are. Talking about how these can be integrated.

Next up we look at the current transits as well as what the astrology indicates for any ongoing difficulties. My main focus on difficulty and challenge is a psychological one that puts the client in a position of control. Illumination, Broadening and shifting perspective is imperative, then simple psychotherapeutic techniques for owning projected traits and integrating them.

As well as discussing practical ways to step up to current calls to action.

Look out, Jessie J’s SUN is in the warrior fire sign of ARIES!
The zodiac sign the Sun is in at our birth indicates HOW we shine, the house placement is WHERE we shine. The area of life, eg outlook, and approach to new situations, creative expression, daily routine/work, one to one equal relationships, career etc.
Jessie J shines when she is forging ahead, being fiery, spirited and confident, strong and assertive, in the area of groups, peers, friendships..out in the world at large. One would say she actualizes by ardently and fearlessly pursuing her most cherished hopes and wishes. So far so good!

Aspects to the Sun give us more information about how she shines as well as differentiating the chart and making it more individual. In this case, there is an easy flow to the Moon in Leo, the sign of the entertainer. This tells us Jessie has an easy flow between asserting her self-expression and her inner emotional needs. There’s an inner confidence and integration that will help her flow through life. Inner masculine and feminine or heart chakra and solar plexus are in harmony. Feelings and Ego work together.
There are two more challenging aspects to the Sun from taskmaster Saturn and the planet of rebellion, Uranus. A ‘square’ aspect indicates that the relationship between the two planets is unintegrated, meaning they don’t work together seamlessly. Rather the outer planet, in this case, Saturn is expressed in a way that doesn’t support the Self-expression of that Aires Sun. Let’s untangle the meaning further.
Saturn is the taskmaster, the realist of the zodiac. It can be depressing to more fanciful types as it shows the area of our life where we can’t get away with winging it, where reality bites. To succeed we must do the long persistent work it takes to master any accomplishments. Jessie’s Saturn is in its ruling sign of Capricorn which allows it to function at its best. However, Aries is ‘squared’ by Capricorn, being at a 45-degree angle to it. Think of two cars headed toward each other at a 45-degree angle, in this case, the Sun and Saturn. So some serious adjustment needs to be made.

We tend to over or under do the outer planet in the square. So Saturns more difficult qualities are over enforced every time Jessie asserts her self-expression (the Sun). If this quality is projected she will find that in life it seems to externalize and Saturn in the 7th house of relationships. This quality Saturn represents becomes projected onto a partner or equal other who represses her Solar nature when she tries to express herself out in the world in groups, with peers or pursuing her hopes and dreams. So it would take some adjustment to hold down a romantic partnership or any close equal friendship without stress in the form of heaviness or restriction while pursuing her dreams and being part of more nonpersonal groups and circles. These two aspects of her life would either be compartmentalized, and be very separate, or some sort of integration would have to take place. In a consultation, I would suggest we perform a process to integrate. Often just the extra illumination can be enough for a client to begin to negotiate problem areas with more conscious awareness.

On a personal level, Saturn in the 7th house indicates that Jessie both requires and delivers absolute commitment in her one on one relationships. In very practical terms. There is a traditional element to her relationships and possibly a mentoring role. She would find older, traditional, possibly professional types attractive, as well as taking that role herself depending on the relationship. Commitment wouldn’t come quickly or easily but once she gives it she’s there for life.

This is where things get complicated in regards to that square from Saturn to the Sun. Over or under-committing. Usually over committal and taking too much responsibility for friendships and peers as if they were more than they are, which works against her.

Uranus Square the Sun
The 3rd major aspect to Jessie’s Sun/ self-expression is from the planet Uranus, also in Capricorn and in the 7th house of equal partnerships. Uranus represents rebelliousness, genius, where we tend to do things differently from the crowd, need change, space and unique experiences. It can also indicate where we tend to have a sudden change. For Jessie, Altho there is a traditional element to her relationships, there is also a need for doing things differently. What may seem erratic or unusual in terms of relationship can sometimes hide the fact that Jessie is actually incredibly committed, however far away from her partner or significant others she can be at times in the pursuit of her dreams.

Uranus squaring the Sun means that Jessie can seem to be erratic as well as hyper-individualistic. Strokes of genius that are overdone and a need to purposely set herself apart from the crowd, while never boring or predictable these spontaneous eruptions can lead to feeling isolated. In terms of relationships, she could find there are sudden endings and beginnings as well as upheaval, especially when she is out expressing that solar principle. Partners can seem restrictive on one hand, and be confounding radical and noncommittal on the other. Or just extremely unusual in their commitment style.
When integrated, great inspiration is born from partnerships and significant others as well as solid practical support, pushing Jessie to be the best she can be. This may be the case generally, however, the feeling that goes with it can be like gears grating internally.

Rather than laboriously delineate each planet and house I’ll quickly touch on other parts of the chart minus the Astro jargon and breakdown.

MOON IN LEO in the 3rd house
Emotionally Jessie needs attention, dramatic creative expression, hugs, applause, fun, and glamour! If she’s upset, compliments get you EVERYWHERE! Let her know she takes center stage in your life. Throw her a microphone and the spotlight or something creative like bright paints and a big canvas, get silly to brighten her spirits or just take her out to a theme park and throw her on the roller coaster, she’ll brighten up before you can say, ‘um, you look familiar..hey, aren’t you…’ In terms of supporting others Jessie will do the same, entertain, add glamour to your life, make things fun and give you some big bear hugs.

Jessie feels big, dramatic and over the top emotions which have a way of growing into a disproportionate size in a heartbeat, becoming self-indulgent.

To the same degree, she can be overly generous and trusting of others that she has let into her heart.

MERCURY IN PISCES in the 11th house

Jessie thinks creatively, intuitively expressing ideas and concepts artistically. She may not be listening to the words you’re using, she’s picking up on what you mean, not what you say, and can send them back in the form of art.

VENUS IN TAURUS in the 12th house
The pleasure principle for Jessie is being creative, and generally sensual, eg good food, drinks, smells, textures. Sitting around with friends enjoying a beautiful dinner in gorgeous surroundings! Socially charming, appreciation for quality as well as functionality. In romance, wine and dine her, be reliable and on time, and only quality gifts…aromatic candles, silk, nice perfume etc. Take her somewhere secluded, with soft music, so she can really get in touch with her pleasure principle. A spa in the woods would be a welcome and unexpected surprise.

MARS IN CAPRICORN in the 9th house
Jessie pursues her ambitions persistently and tenaciously, doing the hard yards for as long as it takes. I’ve looked up a lot of people that have achieved success in their fields and more often than not their Mars is in Capricorn. Mars is the action principle, how you do things/get things done and the quality of your energy. In this case, the energy is focussed on building success, recognition, and mastery.

Jessie is a doer and doesn’t like to waste her energy on unproductive side tangents. The eye is kept firmly on the prize.

With Mars in the 9th house of travel and higher education, there is energy to burn in the area of learning, teaching and international travel.

GEMINI ASCENDENT  

Gemini was ascending when Jessie was born, which means her outlook on life, her response in new situations and the way others see her are Gemini in flavor. Quick, sparkling and never lost for words, the overlay is one of seeking a large variety of influence and stimulation, with a lifelong collecting of knowledge. Led by inquisitiveness and a desire to understand her environment intellectually Jessie can intimidate more shy or sensitive types.
All in all, Jessie is not for the faint of heart. She’s robust, confident, curious and quite a strong-willed woman.

TRANSITS- Current events
There’s a lot of action in Jessie’s 11th house of the wider social circle. With 5 planets transiting this area Jessie will be meeting a lot of new people, receiving invitations to go out and have fun, connect on artistic and spiritual levels as well as facing some personal wounding in connection with all those things, or meeting others that are somehow spiritually or artistically wounded. She may feel more compelled to help those in need and lend more time to charities and generally helping others.

At the same time Jupiter, the planet of luck and expansion is transiting her 5th house of fun, romance, and personal creative expression so she’ll be taking pleasure in all things creative right now, especially getting her technique just right since Jupiter is in the precise sign of Virgo. This could even bring some wonderful romance or at least lots of fun dates onto the scene.

Meanwhile, serious taskmaster Saturn has just entered her partnership zone. Anyone on ones or partnerships that are too fluffy and not 100% serious and authentic will fall away. On a personal level, things could seem to quiet down, even though Jessie can find herself in a crowd, surrounded by people. If already in a relationship, it will get more serious, and if not she won’t be committing easily and will be looking for a more steady and reliable person, possibly more mature and wise. Since Jessie’s natal Saturn has the same placement that should be close to her general experience. It also means Jessie’s first Saturn return is coming up. This is an indicator of stepping up and becoming an adult. It’s the next level of maturation when we really take on the responsibility and consequences of our actions.
This breakdown of Jessie’s chart gives an idea of how an astrology consultation can work..in person, we can focus on particular events or shifts a client is experiencing and may benefit from seeing from a larger perspective. We can also go through various ways of integrating divergent parts of self, needs, and projections, as well as looking at new ways to tackle external conflicts. Often confirmation can help as most people have the gist of what they struggle with, what they may need to change in their lives etc to step out of the should’s and into the 100% authentic self.
